Do you know what you can afford as a monthly payment? This is a different number for every person, but you should have an idea what you can realistically afford to pay every month. If you aren’t sure you can keep a chart, excel document, or write on a piece of paper, to keep track how much you make every month, and how much you spend.

Typically, people make a chart like this and only track their bills, but it is important to include money you spend on groceries, gas, eating out, or any other activities.
